A CEO’s trick to a vibrant work atmosphere

The lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic has changed things for Razorpay CEO Harshil Mathur. The 29-year-old has set up his workstation at his Bengaluru penthouse to ensure there is no muscle strain, headaches, sore eyes, and also to create an atmosphere that promotes vibrancy.“I keep an essential oil diffuser to create a cheerful and vibrant atmosphere while working,” Mathur tells ETPanache over the phone. “My workstation also faces the window for better ventilation, with an ergonomic chair to help maintain proper posture during long meetings.”The transition to work-from-home has been easy for Mathur, but it does come with its limitations. “A big benefit has been saving the commute time. This freedup time helps me start work a little later than usual but then it unintentionally runs longer than regular working hours,” he shares. “Boundaries between weekdays and weekends are blurred due to self-isolation and knowing there’s no rush to finish work to get home.”Mathur says that while working from home for an extended period, it can be tempting to fall into a uniform of T-shirt and pyjamas. “Days can quickly become a blur, leaving no difference between work and relaxation. That’s why I’m in favour of getting dressed up. It helps create a sense of structure, discipline and maintains a sense of normalcy,” he says.Striking a healthy work-life balance is a challenge during these times of economic stagnation and uncertainty for Mathur. “Instead of balancing, I try to integrate work into my personal life. Work-life synergy is the new normal for me. While work definitely keeps me on my toes, I try to see how we can make such times meaningful both for the team and myself,” he says, adding that they’ve been holding poker nights, slack quizzes and game nights, along with watch parties, for employees.73297564
