BENGALURU | MUMBAI: Technology and consulting services companies such as Wipro and Deloitte have delayed induction of new employees due to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. While the nationwide and state-specific lockdowns and restrictions on companies to operate have resulted in delays for those starting on new jobs, large IT services companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro have said in April that they would honour all job offers made early in 2020, though the new hiring numbers would be low this year.Wipro has delayed onboarding new employees including nearly 70 for its client Facebook, people familiar with the development. “About 300-400 professionals, including a team for content review roles in Hyderabad, have not been onboarded yet. They are now facing hardships without salary as a majority of them left their earlier jobs. At the end of May, these people have been told it may take longer for onboarding,” said a person privy to the development.“Wipro reiterates that as announced earlier, the company will honour all offers to candidates,” the company said in response to ET’s questions. It didn’t directly respond to a question on the delay in inducting new employees. A Deloitte spokesperson said market disruptions could be attributed to delays in some cases. “We are committed to honouring all the offers that we have made. Even during the lockdown, we have had virtual on-boarding of joinees. Owing to market disruptions, there could be a delay in the onboarding in some cases,” said the spokesperson.
